Loyal This day Show host and meteorologist Al Roker missed his first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 27 years today while recovering from a recent hospitalization. But he was quite the nod on social media as he cheered on co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, and he made it home in time to catch part of the show and for dinner.
Roker was replaced at the annual Thanksgiving event by Dylan Dreyer, This dayThe ‘s Meteorologist she filled in for while covering the parade from the Upper West Side in New York City.
Roker had been absent from This day in recent weeks, recently revealing that he had been admitted to hospital with a blood clot in his leg that sent some clots to his lungs. “After some medical blows, I am very lucky to receive excellent medical care and on my way to recovery,” he posted on Instagram last week.
This morning, he shared a video of himself leaving the hospital, writing: “So much to be thankful for on Thanksgiving. Leaving the hospital and home for Thanksgiving dinner.
Guthrie and Hotb paid tribute to Roker during the live broadcast of the parade this morning.
“For the last 27 shows, right now we turned to Al Roker, our This day show colleague and our best friend, but, as many of you have heard, Al is recovering, and recovering very well from a recent medical issue.” Kotb said, “We just want to tell you that we love you, Al. I wonder if you’re watching? But, we wish him a full recovery.”
Roker was diagnosed with prostate cancer in November 2020 and underwent a procedure to remove his prostate and affected lymph nodes.
