Brazen thieves made off with nearly $30,000 worth of clothing stolen from a luxurious New York City Lululemon, all while a security guard stood helplessly next door, video shows, as thefts continue to rise across the city in recent weeks.

Surveillance footage of the incident shows that seven suspects, believed to be between 30 and 50 years old, entered the location at 14th Street and 9th Avenue on August 16.

The gang of thieves was able to quietly exit the exclusive West Village store while holding the stolen merchandise, without the intervention of the security guard.

They managed to steal $28,870 worth of clothing, according to the New York Postwith the first thief walking out with a shopping cart full of merchandise, while another could be seen struggling to bag all the clothes he gathered.

Meanwhile, a woman in the group fled the store with another bag full of merchandise, before they fled in an unknown direction, the outlet reports.

And last year, thieves stole $5,000 worth of clothing from a Lululemon in Upper Manhattan, according to the New York Post.

In August, another group of thieves stole more than $2 million worth of jewelry in a brazen broad daylight robbery, CCTV footage shows.

Nearby SoHo and other major shopping districts have also seen a rise in thieves and looters in recent weeks.

NYPD Says Their Hands Are Tied Because of Soft District Attorney on Crime

Police have been criticized for their lenient approach to crime sprees, however they have argued that policies initiated by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg have left them without recourse.

Bragg has been called out for being notoriously soft on crime since taking office in January, which police have cited as the reason behind the city’s recent spate of robberies.

In a recent New York Post op-ed, former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik criticized Bragg for “emboldening the bad guys”.

“Lose that prosecutor. Bragg bag. He should never be in office,” Kerik said. “The worst prosecutor in history. He is emboldening the bad guys. Harming citizens plus law enforcement doing their job.

Last week alone saw a 29.3% increase in thefts compared to the same period last year, with 344 incidents reported between August 15-21, 2022 and just 266 in 2021.
