Carnegie Mellon University issues formal statement condemning professor who wished Queen Elizabeth II “excruciating pain” after her death

Carnegie Mellon University released an official statement following controversial comments from university employee Uju Anya. Carnegie Mellon University says it “does not condone her offensive and objectionable messages,” with many calling for Anya’s suspension or dismissal.

Carnegie Mellon University is making clear its position that will not tolerate, support or approve of the highly controversial comments of the Uju Anya school teacher. In a formal statement posted on the school’s official Twitter account, Anya’s comments were directly addressed.

“We do not condone the offensive and objectionable messages posted today by Uju Anya on her personal social media account. Freedom of expression is central to the mission of higher education, yet the views she shared do not in any way represent the values ​​of the institution, nor the standards of discourse we seek to foster,” the statement read.

After a mountain of backlash, including from the world’s richest man, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Twitter removed several tweets from Uju Anya, specifically one that read, “Heard the head monarch of a genocidal, rapist, and thief is finally dying. May his pain be unbearable.”

Another tweet that was also deleted from Anya read: “That wretched woman and her bloodthirsty throne have screwed up generations of my ancestors on both sides of the family, and she oversaw a government that sponsored genocide that my family survived. fathers and brothers. May she die in agony.”

So far, Carnegie Mellon University has not publicly stated whether or not it plans to take any disciplinary action against Uju Anya because of her posts.
