Chris Rocks Says Will Smith’s Slap Was For The ‘Niceest Joke’ During The Show – Hollywood Life

The comedian reportedly said the actor punched him for “the nicest joke” he’d ever told him, during a show he and he were on. david chappelle‘s co-headlining European tour on September 2. “Did that hurt you? Damn, she said, according to Eastern Time. “The son of a bitch hit me for a dumb joke, the cutest joke I’ve ever told!”

Chris was referencing the joke he made about Will’s wife. Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia, and his head is shaved. “Jada, I love you. gi-jane 2I can’t wait to see it,” he said onstage at the Oscars before Will got up and slapped him with an open hand. After returning to his seat, the former fresh prince of bel air star yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”

Since the shocking incident, Chris has spoken briefly about it on various comedy shows, and Will publicly apologized to Chris and his family after being away for a few months. “I reached out to Chris and the message he got is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will,” Will said in the YouTube video. “So I’ll tell you, Chris, I apologize. My behavior was unacceptable.”

Chris also revealed that he was offered the chance to host the 2023 Academy Awards, but turned it down. He reportedly compared the offer to returning to the scene of a crime, mentioning in particular the OJ Simpson murder case. He apparently explained that returning to the Oscars stage would be like asking the late nicole brown simpson “to go back to the restaurant” where he left a pair of glasses the night of his death.

Will’s actions towards Chris resulted in him being banned from attending the Oscars for the next 10 years. “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision,” Will said in a statement shortly after the ban was announced. “My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful and inexcusable. The list of people I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, everyone in attendance and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy.
