Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon’ Adds Jena Malone, Michael Rooker & More – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Jena Malone, Alejandro Edda, Tatanka Means and Michael Rooker Join the Cast of Kevin Costner’s Epic Western Movie Saga Horizon at Warner Bros./New Line, Deadline found out.

The quartet joins an expanding roster that includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jamie Campbell Bower, Luke Wilson and Thomas Haden Church.

Two-time Oscar winner Costner will produce through Territory Pictures, direct and star in the epic period saga he co-wrote with Jon Baird.

Horizon chronicles a multifaceted 15-year span of expansion and settlement of the American West before and after the Civil War. Experienced through the eyes of many, the epic journey is fraught with danger and intrigue from the constant onslaught of natural elements, to interactions with the indigenous people who lived on the land, and the determination and, on many occasions, the cruelty of those who sought solve it.

Costner returns to direct for the first time since his critically acclaimed 2003 box office hit. open range. With HorizonCostner revisits Civil War-era America, the setting of his multiple Oscar-winning 1990 box office hit, Dancing with Wolveswhich he also directed, produced and starred in. That movie won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Costner.

Malone starred in M. Cahill’s adopting audrey and also served as EP. She was recently seen opposite Billy Bob Thornton in the Amazon series. Goliath and the critically acclaimed Sabrina Doyle film Lorelei where he performed alongside Pablo Schreiber and served as EP. Previous credits include The Hunger Games films of the franchise, by Paul Thomas Anderson inherent vice, Nic Winding Refn’s neon demon and Zack Snyder Sucker Punch. With Horizon reteams with Costner after 5-time Emmy Award-winning limited series Hatfields and McCoys.

Edda was last seen on the FX series Snowfall and returns to season 6 as usual. He plays El Chapo in the Netflix series. Narcos: Mexico and starred opposite Tom Cruise in Made in the USA and at Universal/Blumhouse’s the eternal purge.

Means’ recent work includes the critically acclaimed FX series reserve dogs directed by Tazbah Chavez and Mark Ruffalo’s HBO limited series i know this is true Directed by Derek Cianfrance. It means stars like John Wren, one of the first Native American FBI agents, in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Apple Films title. Moonflower Assassins. Rooker, known for Yondu’s scene-stealing at Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, recently wrapped production on the Netflix comedy the outlaws alongside Adam Devine and Pierce Brosnan. Rooker starred in the James Gunn movie the suicide squad for Warner Bros. and at Universal’s F9: The Fast Saga. Other recent film credits include 21 Laps/Paramount Pictures’ love and monsters Y fantasy island for Blumhouse/Sony. Recent series credits include the Marvel/Disney+ series And yes…?from amazon dark tower and the last season of HBO true detective.
