It looks like Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele isn’t quite done with the world of his acclaimed third feature film, Nope.
Peele hinted at the potential for more films set in the Nope universe in an interview with the new york times posted Monday, after being asked about a character listed on IMDb as “Nobody,” which caught the attention of the internet. While Michael Busch is credited for the role there, the character does not appear in the film, even if he was depicted in its final trailer.
So what is going on there? “People are doing a lot of interesting detective work, that’s what’s going on,” Peele said. “The story of that character has not yet been told, that I can tell you. Which is another frustrating way of saying, I’m glad people are paying attention.”
Peele added: “I think [fans] you’ll get more answers about some of these things in the future. We haven’t finished telling all these stories.”
Peele’s third feature film on the heels of Salt Y U.S centers on Otis “OJ” Haywood Jr. (Daniel Kaluuya) and Emerald “Em” Haywood (Keke Palmer), the children of horse trainer and cowboy Otis Haywood Sr. (Keith David), who are looking to keep their business alive. after the abrupt demise of him, and subsequently find themselves trapped in a cat and mouse with a UFO that has been stalking the area.
Nope has grossed nearly $150 million since Universal Pictures released it on July 22. Peele directed the horror film from his own script, with Steven Yeun, Barbie Ferreira, Brandon Perea and Michael Wincott rounding out the cast. Peele also produced alongside Ian Cooper under his Monkeypaw Production banner, and the film was made as part of his exclusive five-year deal with Universal.
