What Sharna Burgess continues to build her career and family in the United States, she has officially become a citizen.
“Something really amazing happened today:)” dancing with the stars pro, 37, subtitled on a Thursday October 6, Instagram publication, sharing images of the ceremony. “I had no idea this would be emotional for me. This has been my home for almost 12 years. My son was born here, my life, my love and my career, everything here. And yet, this last step of becoming a citizen and finally having the same rights as all Americans felt so important.”
A native of Australia, Burgess had left her home country at the age of 18 to pursue a career as a professional dancer. After moving from one country to another in garbage bags because it was “easier” than suitcases, the choreographer finally settled in Los Angeles when she joined the cast of season 13 of ETAP in 2011.
“I think I always felt a bit like a gypsy in search of belonging. Afraid to stay in one place and also long for the safety of it,” she wrote Thursday. “But then the United States slowly became my permanent home. I eventually found my tribe here, bought a house here, fell in love here, gave birth to my son here.”
In the midst of her prosperous career as a dancer, the burn the ground alum found a romantic connection with brian austin green in December 2020.
“There have been discussions over the time we’ve been together about things that we like and would like, and we’re at the end of the game,” Burgess previously said. us weekly in March of her relationship with the 49-year-old man Beverly Hills, 90210 alum. “So, it’s definitely in the cards at some point, but we weren’t that kind of relationship. The dancer and Green, who teamed up to ETAP season 30: expanded its brood earlier this year. Son Zane, who is the actor’s fifth child and Burgess’s first, was born in June.
Like Burgess and the masked singer Alumni, who attended Thursday’s citizenship ceremony, take the next step in their relationship while raising their little one, the Season 27 mirrorball champion is thankful America has given her a place to fit in.
“This final step is the period at the end that I never knew I needed so much. This very long chapter of finding belonging has finally come to an end,” his social media post concluded. “I, Sharna Burgess, am a citizen of the United States of America and I belong here.”
