But Taylor definitely wasn’t about to accept that, and he immediately shut that down and got me off that ship.”
The couple, who previously told U.S they were taking their relationship “day by day” – they’ve only been back in the real world for a week, so meeting and talking to people is still an adjustment. “It can be a little overwhelming with all the introductions and meeting everyone after spending so much time in a house that we were isolated in,” says Joseph, adding that it was “an amazing experience” and “an honor and a privilege. to get a chance to talk to fans.”
Taylor, who made history as the first black woman to win a US regular season. Older brothershare that feeling, telling U.S, “It is always very exciting when we go to meet the fans. It’s even weird to say we have fans because we’re just normal people who had a really crazy experience, but it’s really fun to realize how one small moment can change someone’s entire day and make them happier. We never know what someone is going through. So to give that joy, just to have a small presence in someone’s life, and I’m very grateful.”
The Michigan native adds, “And having Joseph by my side makes everything that much sweeter.”
At one point during the event, the couple “snuck out of the party” to get some food. “Taylor and I were hungry,” says Joseph. “We went to the passenger section of the boat where they were just serving food. Then people realized we were at the table and they were asking for photos and just talking to the two of us about our game, obviously praising Taylor for what she did and making history. That was really cool.”
José previously sat with U.S to talk about how he’s handling postgame relationships and supporting Taylor in the process. “The best thing I want to do is support her. So whatever she wants from me and how she can help her, and whatever her healing process is, I want to do that for her,” the Florida native said. “She won Older brother for a reason. The fact that she won, I think, says a lot. She is a great judge of character and she is very empathetic. Honestly, she is a role model for me. That is why I have so much respect and love for her.”
The Season 24 winner, meanwhile, said U.S after his $750,000 win, “I feel like I’ve played this game, not just for Taylor Mackenzie Dickens Hale. i played it for Da’Vonne [Rogers]. i played it for Bayleigh [Dayton]every black woman who has played this game and ultimately Aza [Awasum] Y Daniela [Reyes] Y Monica [Bailey] who made it to the final three, but just couldn’t take it home for whatever reason. He is bigger than me. I did it for them too.”
