Friday marked a special day for R&B music, as both Usher Y Mariah Carey celebrated the 25th anniversary of two special albums. Usher celebrated the anniversary of his second studio album “My way”, and Mariah celebrated the anniversary of her sixth studio album “Butterfly.”
Both artists, who have earned the titles of legends, had special releases to commemorate these special milestones.
For Usher, it didn’t just recreate his “My way”, album cover 25 years later, but also released the 25th anniversary edition of the album, which includes three reimagined tracks made with Ryan James Carr, a vinyl anniversary pack and a mini documentary celebrating the project.
In a conversation with ComplexUsher shared what comes to mind when he hears the words “my way” saying:
“Legacy has to do with time and the ability to have had so many years and the celebration of it… I am very happy that at that moment, I decided to be so bold. [and] don’t give up on my dream. [It was] my first time working with Jermaine Dupri, of course. Working with him was something that had always been on my mind. But the fact that we clicked the way we did, what comes to mind is maybe it was organic, maybe it was ordained to happen. Y [it’s] great that he did, because not only do we still have an amazing relationship, but now we’re going to take the opportunity to do it again and reimagine it through new musical ideas. But it’s a celebration, man; it’s really a celebration that I hope people from the past have a chance to remember and also that people who are hearing it for the first time have a chance to know my story and the story that Jermaine Dupri and I have. And all, by the way, those who were part of the album. It’s not just Jermaine. it was Face. They were the writers of that album, right? It was Teddy Riley. I’m happy to look back and be really excited.”
Mariah Carey also had a special launch in honor of “Butterfly.”
He took to social media to announce, in honor of the album’s milestone, that he has released new remixes, live performances, acapellas and a new version of his song “The Roof” featuring Brandy.
I poured into every lyric and every note in every song. 25 years later, it remains one of the proudest moments of my life and career. Celebrate #butterfly25I’m releasing new remixes, live performances, acapellas and a new version of “The Roof” with the only @4everBrandy! pic.twitter.com/V0vrnZ9CgL

Mary spoke with Rolling Stone for the anniversary of the album, and reflected on the end of her marriage to Tommy Mottola, who was the inspiration behind the 1997 masterpiece. She said,
“Having the strength to break through that wasn’t easy. So I put everything into music.”
Roommates, what are your favorite songs from “My way,” Y “Butterfly?”
