Waka Flocka Llama is taking some responsibility for his part in the 2020 separation from his wife of eight years, Tammy Riverasaying “it just feels more comforting to say, ‘man, I’m sorry I caused it.
The 36-year-old rapper and reality star said that was his way of “being a bigger man” and made sure to say that he’s not saying he’s solely to blame for the split.
In a zoom interview this week with HipHopDXWaka acknowledged that there were things they could have done differently to possibly avoid the divorce, and diplomatically spoke about the breakup, which is the central focus of Season 3 of her WEtv reality show “Waka & Tammy: What The Flocka.” .
“F*** no,” he said when asked if he imagined going through a divorce on television. “I chose this life 14, 15 years ago, the whole relationship, when I chose to go into this field of being a celebrity, so it is what it is. It’s definitely depressing to have an egg on your face, but when it’s like, for me, it feels more comforting to be like, ‘Man, I’m sorry I caused it.
While more than two years have passed since the couple split, Waka and Rivera have since managed to peacefully balance co-parenting duties while remaining friends.

Flocka denied that cheating was the reason behind the divorce, saying that any infidelity that occurred in the relationship was “eight years ago”, towards the beginning of their relationship.
“That’s me being a bigger man. That doesn’t tell me, I’m the reason we split up. That is not the reason. There is no reason. That cheating thing, that shit happened eight years ago. The reason we split up is… there’s no reason, I’m telling you. You do not even know it. It was just a mutual feeling.”
In the Season 3 debut of their reality show, which premiered on August 18, Waka and her brother talk about the breakup while at the supermarket towards the beginning of the episode.
Waka can be heard telling the outlet that “this episode might bring these feelings back,” adding that the two “parted gracefully.”
“My brother came to the house like, ‘I’m about to stay with you, because you’re single, I don’t know where your head is at,'” she recalled. “Two and a half years have passed. However, this episode could bring back these feelings. I don’t know what I felt [then]but I know what I feel. He was definitely in a state of mind… he was serious. It’s serious, no matter how you want to say it. But we parted gracefully.”
The rapper said he has since found himself in “magical ways” since the breakup, and had “improved everything in my life” after the divorce, including his eating patterns, meditations and “high-vibrating things.”
“I just improved everything in my life,” he said. “I increased my meditations, I improved my eating patterns, I improved my everything, man. I’m telling you, it’s impossible. I have to do things that vibrate high”.
She also said that she is working on her diet and stated in a recent Instagram post that she will return to a vegan diet.
“It was just going backwards,” he said. “It was like, ‘What happens to someone who eats vegan and goes back to eating toxic, basically?’ And I see that I am getting bigger. I’m like, ‘OK’. The fun part about that is that it’s always fun to detox and eat healthy. It feels good when you eat clean.”
Waka went on to say that he learned a lot from being on a reality show, teaching him to see things from other perspectives, he told HipHopDX.
“What helped me was having a TV show,” he explained. “The first time I saw Tammy injured was on television. It’s like, ‘No, Waka, you’re out of control.’ I had no one around me to say, ‘Me!’ And that is not for me to blame anyone. She let me know that I needed to be that to my friends.”
He added that even though he and Tammy ended up as a couple, he vowed to handle his upcoming relationship differently, saying he’ll “protect his girl’s emotions at all costs.”
“An example is that I never try to say that I can put my wife in position,” he said. “Who am I to tell her how to live her life and put her in a cage and make her feel like if we’re not on good terms her life isn’t perfect anymore? She then had a personality crisis and lost herself. I will walk with her on her own path, be a counselor and protect her emotions. That’s what I’ll do. I’ll sum it up: I’ll just protect my girl’s emotions at all costs.”
The couple had no biological children together, however Waka Flocka has been a father figure to Tammy’s daughter Charlie since she was four years old.
